Revamping/ Upgrading Post Qualification Course on ISA

The Committee on Information Technology has embarked on a mission to revamp the Post Qualification (PQC) on Information Systems Audit (ISA) to better meet the expectations of the users of IS Audit Services and members pursing the course. The Committee organised ISA Meets at Ahmedabad, Baroda, Mumbai, Coimbatore, and Banglore on Oct 17, 18, 19, 2008 and December 29, 2008 and January 5, 2009 to meet ISA Members and understand their requirements. Some of the suggestions received for improving the ISA PQC are as follows:

  • Linkage of each chapter of the ISA Background material with the International Standards.
  • Training to be standardized across all locations by developing Standard PPTs.
  • Hands-on training to be included along with theoretical training. Exact no. of hours for Hands-on training and theoretical contents to be decided by the Committee. Two e-Learning modules on Using MS-Excel 2007 as an Audit Tool and Using CAATs/ GAS to be provided as a part of course material with revamped course to provide Practical Training.
  • Case studies/PPTs are to be developed by experienced faculty having practical exposure in ISA. Simulated Case studies to be developed on IS Audit with the assistance of faculty from C&AG and members in IT related industries. For this purpose a letter to be sent to Dy. C&AG (LBAEC) with a copy to DG (IT Audit) for assisting in providing faculty support for preparation of material for hands-on training.
  • e-Learning material to be developed on MS-Access for introducing controls – Duplicates, Range etc checks.
  • Experienced faculties to be added on the panel who can provide practical exposure in Information System Audit.
  • One feed back sheet to be sent to all the ISA members for taking their views and suggestions for further improvement of the course.
  • ISA Study Groups - All the three groups to be requested to provide their feed backs/ view/suggestions and these should be presented in the agenda item of the next meeting.
  • e-Learning contents be introduced for the ISA course.
  • Wherever possible local faculties have to be arranged so as to reduce the cost of travelling, DA and other incidental cost.

The Committee proposes to organise about 25 ISA Meets this year to meet members, understand their requirements and appraise them of the road ahead.

The Committee is currently also in the process of coming out with a revised syllabus and background materials for the Post Qualification Course on IS Audit. The proposed revised syllabus is available at the following link:
